Why Choose KCP for Your Newborn Session?

Newborns, sweet snuggly beans signaling a new, exciting chapter for you and your family. Tiny fingers and tiny toes that change so quickly in those early days. Newborn sessions are so important for that reason. They capture all those small, precious details before they change and that tiny baby is on the move. It can be a tough decision on who to trust with your newest little one during those precious and delicate first weeks of life. Read on to learn a few of the reasons KCP can be trusted with your newborn session.

Safety, First

Here at KCP, I lead with the baby’s safety being the top priority. Newborns can be so delicate in those early days, which is why my newborn sessions are baby led. The flow and timing of the shoot all depends on the baby. I won’t force any poses that the baby doesn’t settle into, and there is no rush to get into them. Baby’s comfort throughout the session is top priority, meaning we go at the baby’s pace. This also means each newborn session needs to be approached with patience. I’ve had many clients tell me they can’t believe how patient I was to get the photo. To me, I’m just treating these tiny humans with the love and care they need so they can enjoy the session comfortably and safely.

I’ve studied newborn safety for years. I’ve taken and passed the Kelly Brown Safety Certificate. I’m certified in first aid and CPR for infants, children and adults. I'm prepared for anything that could arise during a session. Your precious baby is in safe hands.

Education

I photographed my first newborn 4, nearly 5, years ago. In all those years, I have been constantly learning and improving my skills. I have been a constant student of Kelly Brown Online, to the point I'm a founding member. I’ve learned and practiced the methods of newborn posing and how to get the desired results, safely and effectively. Kelly Brown is a world renowned newborn photographer who has won multiple awards for her photography as well as awards for her education platform that I have been a part of since 2021. I've also been a part of the Milky Way retreat for the past 2 years. It's been great to build a stronger educational foundation since the retreat has educators and perspectives of all kinds from all over.

Over the years, I’ve been able to build a strong foundation for newborn photography, learning not just how to create beautiful images, but why certain techniques protect your baby in the process. I’m not a stranger to the craft. I’ve been spending  the last 5 years expanding and honing my craft in newborn photography through education that has been hands-on, continuous and intentional. It truly is one of my favorite session types to capture.

Collaborative Process

Just like how each newborn is special and unique, each newborn session is set up to be just as special. Together, we will pick wraps, colors,  set-ups and props.  It’s not a one-sided process. Your  input is important to the process. I'm here for as much or as little help as you want .

Want to incorporate something special or meaningful into the newborn session, just let me know and we will figure it out. Want to use a special memento or family heirloom? Let’s do it. Want a set-up that can match your nursery theme? I can do that. Vague idea of something you want to do? Hit me up and let’s see what we can come up with. I am here to help make the process smooth and easy. Having a baby is hard enough. Their newborn photography session shouldn’t be.

Upcoming

There are some exciting things on the horizon for KCP. The biggest one, a studio, is in progress of being built in my backyard. For those that don’t want to do an in-home newborn session, this will be a great studio space for the session. There will be a client area for you to relax in during the session. Toys will be available for any siblings that need entertainment during the session. My backyard studio will even have a bathroom. I’m hoping the studio will be ready to go in a couple of months, but we are dependent on the weather right now. Everyone join me in some antirain dances long enough for the concrete to be poured.

Also upcoming, I won’t be able to accept any newborns with a due date from late May to mid/late August as I am expecting my own tiny human. However, I’m starting to see lots of September babies getting announced. I’ll be back up and running for the Fall season and as long as the weather can be my friend, I’ll be back with a new studio ready for all the photos.
